FAQs on New Version Naming

Answers to common questions about DataSnipper's year.release.patch version naming, auto-updater behaviour, and compatibility.

Answers to common questions about DataSnipper's version naming update.

Why are we moving to new version naming?

The new year.release.patch format makes it easier to understand when a version was released and enables more frequent updates, giving customers greater flexibility.

What happens with the Auto-Updater?

v26 and above: auto-updates are mandatory. v26 requires user-level licensing to be enabled on your license and only ships as an auto-updating release. Static versioning is not available from v26 onwards.

No version below v26 will auto-update to v26, including v25. The Auto-Updater never crosses into v26. Upgrading to v26 is a manual process only, so your organization can plan and control the migration on your own timeline.

For versions below v26, the Auto-Updater updates to the latest version within the same track (insider or public). For example, customers on v6.1 auto-update to v25.1.x (previously known as v7.0). The Auto-Updater never crosses from v25 into v26.

Will old version names change?

No. We are only applying the new naming format to future releases. Existing versions keep their original names.

What about customers who prefer annual updates?

Updates remain optional. You can decide when to update based on your needs and the features you want to adopt. With more frequent releases, you have added flexibility to choose updates that align with your schedule.

Will there be any impact on compatibility with existing integrations or tools?

No. The new version naming does not affect compatibility with your existing integrations or tools. Everything works as before.

How can I check which version I am currently using?

You can check your current version the same way as before: go to the About section in DataSnipper for Excel.

Will there be notifications for updates?

Yes. We keep you informed by updating our changelog, sharing updates on our social media channels, and posting details on our website.
