How to use the WebSnip Extension

Use the WebSnip Extension to capture data and evidence from web pages, including the URL and timestamp, and sync it straight into Excel. Requires DataSnipper v6 or later.

About the WebSnip Extension

The WebSnip Extension lets you extract and validate data from web pages. It increases the credibility of your evidence by capturing the URL and timestamp of your screenshot and syncing them directly to Excel for desktop. By removing manual steps and third-party apps, you can import data quickly, reduce the chance of human error, and keep data capture from web pages consistent.

Prerequisites

  • DataSnipper v6 or later

  • DataSnipper OCR or Private OCR

  • Chrome or Edge browser

Step-by-step guide

Before you begin, make sure the "Sync Snips to Excel" toggle is turned on.

1. Open the Excel workbook on your desktop where you want the data extracted.

2. Choose an empty cell for the data.

3. In your browser, navigate to the web page containing the data you want.

4. Click the WebSnip Extension icon in your ribbon to bring up the snipping toolbar at the bottom of the screen. You can select Text, Validation, Exception, Sum, or Table Snips.

5. Use the snipping toolbar to select the data by drawing a rectangle around it.

6. WebSnip captures the selected data and transfers it directly to your Excel workbook.

7. Return to Excel to view the extracted data in the chosen cell.

8. The Document Viewer displays additional information, including a screenshot of the captured evidence, the URL of the web page, and the timestamp of the extraction.

9. The extracted data and source evidence are now cross-referenced in your Excel workbook.
