How to add a Sum Snip to a document

Extract numbers from a document and sum them directly into an Excel cell using the Sum Snip in DataSnipper for Excel.

With the Sum Snip, you can extract numbers from a document and sum them directly in a cell in Excel.

About Snipping

With DataSnipper for Excel you can cross-reference Excel with supporting evidence, like PDFs, images, MS Word and Excel files. The references are stored in the workbook, making it very easy to review audit procedures.

Before you start

DataSnipper supports extracting numbers from PDFs, images, MS Word files, and Excel files. If your document is a scan or image with no text layer, run Text Recognition (OCR) first so DataSnipper can read the numbers correctly.

Extracting numbers with the Sum Snip

  1. Press the Sum Snip button to activate it.

  2. Select the cell that you want to link to the document.

  3. Drag a rectangle around the relevant location on the document.

  4. All the numbers in the rectangle are summed into the selected cell. A cross-reference is stored.

Adding numbers from multiple documents or pages

You can sum numbers from different documents or pages into a single cell by holding CTRL and creating multiple Snips across different documents.
