How to set up Custom Tickmarks as the Default in Financial Statement Suite

Set up company-wide custom tickmarks as the default in the Financial Statement Suite using a CSV file in the DataSnipper App Data Folder.

In v4.1 or later, you can change the default tickmarks applied by the Financial Statement Suite (FSS). This article shows how to implement your own company-wide tickmarks as the default in FSS. FSS is a paid add-on module designed to help you perform and review financial statements while boosting efficiency.

Setting default tickmarks

By default, the Financial Statement Suite offers standard tickmarks such as V, IC, and PY to indicate correct (blue) or incorrect (red) findings, and they are consistently applied across the financial statement.

If the default tickmarks created by DataSnipper do not align with the documentation standards at your organization, you can customize the default tickmarks for all users to promote consistency.

1. Identify the tickmarks to be used

To specify the tickmarks you would like to use, provide the following information:

  • Type of tickmark (for example, MA, IC, PY)

  • Status (Correct vs. Incorrect)

  • Text or symbol of the tickmark (for example, TB)

  • Hex color code (for example, #639fff)

The information above should be included in a CSV file structured as shown below.

CSV file format for default tickmarks

Important: The file should be saved as default_tickmarks.

2. Include the file in DataSnipper's App Data Folder

By including the file in the DataSnipper App Data Folder, the automatic tickmarks applied by DataSnipper become the custom default ones you have set.

To include the CSV file in the App Data Folder for all users:

  • Option 1 (recommended): Have your IT team push this file via the command line to all users with DataSnipper installed. This ensures that everyone uses the same tickmarks set by your organization.

  • Option 2: Manually drag and drop the file into the app data folder. To access the app data folder, type %appdata% in the Windows file explorer tab and click the DataSnipper folder.

To test whether the tickmarks were implemented correctly before pushing the file to all users' computers, follow the instructions above on a few of your team members' computers and restart Excel. When you open the Financial Statement Suite, you should see the new tickmarks.
