Editing extraction keys in Form Extraction lets you improve the accuracy of data extracted from documents. This is useful when documents have minor layout variations or when the automatic key selection is not producing the expected results.
What are keys?
When you set up a Form Extraction, DataSnipper automatically selects nearby text to use as a reference point, called a key. DataSnipper searches for this key on each document page and extracts data based on its distance from it. Editing the key lets you choose a more suitable anchor when the default selection is not working well.
When to edit keys
In most cases the automatically selected key will produce accurate results. Consider editing when documents have minor layout differences across files, the extraction is pulling from an inconsistent location, or you want to improve precision for a specific field.
How to edit a key
In Form Extraction, click the three-dots menu next to the extraction you want to adjust.
Select Edit key. The current key text is highlighted in yellow near the snip.
Snip over a different text near the extraction to use as the new key. The preview updates immediately to show the effect of the change.
Tips for choosing a good key
Unique to the field you want to extract, not shared with other areas of the document
Consistent across all documents in the set
At a similar distance from the target data across all files
On the same page as the data you want to extract
